Seller's Description
Beautiful studio pottery soup bowl and dish in a stunning rich blue and brown glaze. Marked on the base 'S. Kalan'.
Stephanie Kalan was an early member of the Craft Potters Association and has two pieces of her work in the V&A museum along with other museums and private collections. She started potting in 1952 and died in 1978. Stephanie was born in Austria and came to England in 1938 with her husband Anton and did a pottery course at the Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts. She and her husband, who was also a potter, set up their first pottery in Mitcham, Surrey and then in 1962 moved to Newport in Essex.
Both items in good condition, no chips or cracks. Dish width 15.5cms. Bowl width without handles 11cms, height 6.75cms.
