Spodumene Custom Faceted Stele: Very Rare Collector Type with Rutile; 20.7 cts

The gem name spodumene comes from a Greek word meaning "ash" (presumably referring to the opaque gray-white color of the mineral in its more common, non-gem quality form). The colorless transparent variety is known as spodumene, while a green variety is often called "hiddenite" and a pink variety is called "kunzite" (the colored varieties have an unfortunate tendency to permanently lose their color with exposure to sunlight and UV). This piece exhibits golden needles of rutile. Some of the needles have dissolved, leaving silvery empty tubes. An interesting, way out of the ordinary, variety in a large size with an unusual cut that will look great in your collection or in your custom jewel design.
