SPITFIRE MK II RAF No.276 SQN (AIR-SEA RESCUE) P8131 - CORGI AA31901 1/72

In 1942, the MkIIA/B was officially modified for Air-Sea Rescue duties and designated Type 375 Spitfire Mimic. In this instance, the 'C' suffix was used to distinguish this variant from the fighter versions rather than wing armament differences. Essentially a non-combatant aircraft, the IIC retained its armament and, in addition was fitted with a small rack for two reuse marker smoke bombs under the port wing. ASR Spitfires were issued to No.276 and 277 Squadrons and pooled to other ASR Squadrons as and when required.

Supermarine Spitfire Mk II

The Spitfire had 40 major variants and was built in greater numbers than any other British aircraft of the time. It flew operationally on every front between 1939 and 1945 and was engaged in every one of the Royal Air Force's major actions.
