ANTIQUE ANTIQUES OLD COLLECTIBLE COLLECTIBLES ROADSHOW ROAD SHOW
This Month's Cover: A selection
of fine and rare late 18th and early 19th
century paste jewelry of English and French
origin. Although imitations of real gemstones,
paste jewelry is often found mounted in silver
and gold settings, an indication of the value
placed on them by their designers and owners.
The cross set with pale blue pastes and bril-
liants is an exceptionally rare examples of this
kind of jewelry. Jewelry through the courtesy of
Harvev & Gore, London, England.
Next Month: Many adults and chil-
dren can recite "A Visit From St. Nicholas" by
heart because its pleasant lilt is easy to
memorize. And old copies handed down from
one generation to another are still brought out
every Christmas to be read yet another time.
Although the title has been changed and the
author's byline omitted from later versions by
a number of publishers, still dement C. Moore
and His Christmas Poem live on, bringing joy
to more and more people each year, according
to Elizabeth Pullar.
Collectors Neldred and Raymond Spong
combine their talents in an article entitled
From the Yellow Kid to Li'l Abner in Music and
Toys. Sheet music created around such comic
characters as Andv Gump, the Katzenjammer
Kids, Barney Google and Happy Hooligan are
matched with toys inspired by these amusing
cartoons. It's. another way to broaden the
scope of your collection.
Michael Goudket collects Early Theatrical
Photographs with a passion. In his article on
this subject he tells how to distinguish the
early portrait photos of theatrical people from
the standard portraits found in old photo-
graph albums. A clue to identification is often
found on the card itself in the form of the
photographers name and address—such
greats in this field as Sarony, Mora, Brady and
Gurney. Since these photographs take up very
little space—a single drawer can accommo-
date a fairly large collection—storage prob-
lems are at a minimum.
In Bahy Tender, Victorian Style, Dorothy S.
Coleman illustrates one of the most fantastic
pieces of multi-purpose furniture we've ever
seen. Not only did this piece of furniture act as
a crib for the baby, it could be adjusted easily
into a chair and play table, a walker, and a
rocking horse. It was convertible to these vari-
ous uses as the infant grew older.
We'll have even more to offer for your
Christmas enjoyment.
