Text from the free encyclopedia WIKIPEDIA may appear below to give a little background information:
*************
Todra Gorge (French: Gorges du Todra, Arabic: ???? ?????) is situated on the remote east side of the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco. Both the Todra and neighbouring Dades Rivers have carved out cliff-sided canyons (Arabic: wadi) on their final 40 km through the mountains. The final 600 m of the Todra gorge are the most spectacular as the canyon narrows to a flat stony track as little as 10m wide in places with sheer and smooth rock walls up to 160 m high on each side. The tiny glacier stream is something of a misfit and the river which once filled the gorge can only be imagined. It is easy to hike in the gorge - there is a well-maintained dirt road to walk along. The scenery is spectacular. Local people live in the area and can be seen with their small donkeys, or herding camels.
It is no longer as remote as it once was, there is a reasonably well-maintained asphalt road that leads up the valley from Tinerhir to the Gorge. A concrete road continues on, past the hotels at the mouth of the Gorge and up to the villages of Aït Hani, Tamtatouchte, and Imilchil.
Dadès River (French: Oued Dadès) is a river in Morocco, located at 31°00'09?N 6°31'36?W? / ?31.0025°N 6.5266667°W. It rises in the High Atlas and then turns south crossing through the Dadès Gorge, thence westward between the High Atlas and Anti-Atlas mountain ranges. Finally river meets Ouarzazate River and enters Draa River. The Dades Gorge is easily accessible by taxi from nearby Tinerhir. The scenery is significant with views of interesting rock formations. The valley itself is made lush and green by the river, while the surrounding area is rocky desert. There are simple communitities still living here in traditional houses. Women can be seen washing laundry in the river and laying it to dry on the surrounding bushes.
Zagora (Arabic: ??????) is a town in the valley of the Draa River in Souss-Massa-Draâ, southeastern Morocco. It is located at around 30°19'50?N 5°50'17?W? / ?30.33056°N 5.83806°WCoordinates: 30°19'50?N 5°50'17?W? / ?30.33056°N 5.83806°W. It is flanked by the mountain Zagora from which the town got its name. Originally it was called 'Tazagourt' the singular of plural 'Tizigirt', Berber for 'twinpeaks', referring to the form of the mountain. In old European maps the mountain Zagora is already indicated but the town itself was only built in the 20th century. On the top of the Zagora mountain the remains of an Almoravid fortress can still be seen. [1] The exact location of the former Almoravid mosque is still a matter of dispute. Each year the moussem (festival) of the Sufi saint moulay Abdelkader Jilali is celebrated at Zagora.
A well known sign at the town border states "Tombouctou 52 jours", the supposed time it takes to get to Timbuktu, Mali on foot or camel.
