Family history    Provenence. In 1911 Ellen (Nellie) is living at 9 William Street, Devonport with a Mrs.Rogers . Working in 1907 as a dressmaker at John Yeos 35 Bedford Street. Plymouth.

In 1901 Ellen, Ernest and Archibald are living at 40 George Street, E.Stonehouse in a house obviously split into tenements. Philip J. is given as a Stoker in the navy, and his wife was Emma. She died in 1909 and Archibald had died in 1902. This left Philip with two young people: Ernest 18 and Ellen 16. How long he knew Edith Rogers we do not know but E & E were living with her in Spring1911 and Edith and Philip married in the December quarter of 1911. In the 1911 Census Philip was in Portsmouth on board the Triumph

Le Masurier is a very common one in the Channel Islands and there were at least 4 born between 1867 and 1870 but the one we wanted was baptised Philip John, so thank goodness for that useful second name.

I found Philip in the 1871 Census in the Channel Islands. His father was a small farmer with 15 acres but a large family all born in Jersey and living in Main Road, St.Clements He seemed to keep his wife pretty busy!
