Seller's Description

Dr. Oskar Morawetz, born in Svetla nad Sazavou in Czechoslovakia January 17, 1917, studied piano and theory in Prague and, following the Nazi takeover of his country in 1938, studied in Vienna and Paris, always staying one step ahead of the invading Nazis. He developed at an early age an ability to sight-read orchestral scores and at 19 was recommended by George Szell for the assistant conductor's post with the Prague Opera. In 1940, he left Europe for Canada and since that time, he has established himself as one of Canada's most frequently performed composers.

Instrumentation: 3(picc)3(Eng horn)3(bass cl)3(cbsn)/4331/timp, 3 perc    Duration: 22:00    Premiere:   Zubin Mehta, Montreal Symphony

Recording:  RCI 292. Jean Deslauriers, Montreal Symphony Orchestra

Winning composition of Critics' Award at International Competition for Contemporary Music in Cava dei Tirreni, Italy, 1966

Score is LIKE NEW, unmarked except for my library stamp and a crease on the upper left corner of the cover..

Over the next few months, I will continue listing a large number of scores for orchestra, string orchestra, wind band, and chamber ensembles that I collected over my 40-year conducting career. I will also be listing most of the (700+) books on music and musicians. If you are looking for something in particular, it is possible that I have it. Message me with a request, and it it is in my collection, I will add it to my store.

Shipping can be combined on books and scores. Message me for a combined invoice prior to paying.

Although new to eBid, I've been an seller for MANY years, but their changes are making it increasingly difficult to sell. I have 100% positive feedback (seller name martyrp), so bid here with confidence.
