Seller's Description
Original 10 inch x 8 inch Black and White Portrait of director WILLIAM FAIRCHILD at sea near Gibralatar for his 1958 War Film THE SILENT ENEMY.
Based on Marshall Pugh's book “Commander Crabb”, it was made following the publicity created by Crabb's mysterious disappearance and likely death during a Cold War incident a year earlier.
William Fairchild (1918 - 2000) began his career as a naval officer, pursuing writing while serving in World War II. By 1943, Fairchild had published his first book, "A Matter of Duty", under the pseudonym Edward Cranston. During the 1950's, he wrote several screenplays, that were later released by major film companies, including his "Operation Disaster" (1950), "Silent Enemy" (1958) and "Star!" (1968), which earned him the Writers Guild Award.
Still by Ray Hearne (1948 - 1979). Hearne worked in the film industry as a cinematographer and other roles within the camera and electrical department.
The portrait is in very good condition with minor surface marks.
