Jigsaw locks a few unlucky people in a booby trapped shelter and they must find a way out before they inhale too much of a lethal nerve gas and die. But they must watch out, for the traps Jigsaw has set in the shelter lead to death also. Saw was such a game changer for the horror genre. That posed a daunting question to the studio when they turned it into a franchise of whether they could keep the movies interesting or would they just become routine? That was especially hard for Saw because there was a formula each one had to follow. Jigsaw would kidnap people and offer them a deadly and very painful test to make them pay for their past transgressions. The twist they added which would be played out in all the following Saw releases was that Jigsaw took a group of people this time and put them all through a series of tests. At the same time he’s putting Detective Eric Matthews (Donnie Wahlberg) on trial by questioning him about his past while also holding his kid Daniel (Erik Knudsen) with the group he kidnapped.
