Seller's Description

Original Argentine 29 inch x 43 inch Poster for the 1951 Jean Renoir Romantic Drama THE RIVER, based on the novel by Rumer Godden and starring Nora Swinburne, Esmond Knight, Arthur Shields, Suprova Mukerjee and Adrienne Corri.

Director Jean Renoir’s delightful first colour feature—shot entirely on location in India—is a visual tour de force. The film eloquently contrasts the growing pains of three young women with the permanency of the Bengal river around which their daily lives unfold. Enriched by Renoir’s subtle understanding and appreciation for India and its people, The River gracefully explores the fragile connections between transitory emotions and everlasting creation.

The poster is in good to very good folded condition. There are 2 extra horizontal fold lines close to top and bottom. There are a few edge tears and pinholes. There is a censor stamp in the top left corner.
