Original 1835 8 5/8 inch x 6 1/8 inch etching and engraving titled RICHARD BOYLE, EARL OF BURLINGTON
Statesman; architect and art patron (1695 - 1753). three-quarter length, seated to left in an armchair, looking towards the viewer; wearing long curly wig, frilled cravat, sash, and coat with Garter star, holding upright on a table a book with his right hand, his left hand resting on chair arm; sculptured bust of a man on table; curtain, column, and head of female figure behind at right. Illustration to Lodge's 'Portraits' (8vo edition, London 1821-34.

Engraved by William Henry Mote (1803 - 1871). He was an English stipple and line engraver, primarily known for his portraits. He produced etchings for reference books, as well as original etchings. Mote became a member of the Royal Academy in his twenties and his portraits hang in the National Portrait Gallery, London.
After George Knapton (1698 - 1778). Knapton studied with Jonathan Richardson and visited Italy before becoming a picture expert as well as portrait painter. In 1750 he worked with George Vertue on a survey of the paintings in the Royal Collection and in 1765 was made Surveyor of the King's Pictures.
