R134a Replacement in Commercial Refrigeration Applications.

Coolers Freezers Walk-In Coolers and Freezers Chillers Air Conditioning Units that use R134a Can R515ba be added to systems containing R134a without materially affecting the performance of the whole system?

First and foremost, the EPA does not condone, recommend or approve of mixing any refrigerants.

*Mixing of refrigerants is allowed in other countries however!

However, R515b does not form an azeotropic mixture with R134a.

Therefore, if a technician inadvertently or unknowingly adds R515b to a system containing R134a the system will not generate any higher pressures and will operate as normal without any harm to system components.

*No Oil Changes *No System Changes Required *Made in the USA The only refrigerant we use for all R134a commercial refrigeration applications!

1) Ensure the right equipment is available (e.g., recovery unit and cylinders, container for recovered lubricant, vacuum pump, weighing scales, replacement drier, etc.)

2) Record baseline data to establish the normal operating conditions for the equipment

3) Check the manufacturer specifications for the unit to find the recommended R1334a charge in order to determine the amount of R515b to add.

4) Replace the filter/drier if moisture is suspected in the system.

This is not necessary on a sealed system.

5) Having evacuated the system, liquid charge the unit with R515b up to 90% of the original charge amount of R134a and then compare to baseline data.

6) Switch on the unit and compare the baseline data, monitor sight glasses, suction line pressure and temperature, and discharge temperature; add additional R515b up to the recommended R134a system charge amount as needed.

7) Check system thoroughly for leaks; and repair as needed.

8) Clearly label the system to show it contains R515b.
