On January 1, 2022, the U.S. officially started its phase down of HFC refrigerants, such as R-404A and R-410A.
Beginning this year, 2023, the production of HFC refrigerants will be reduced by 10%, while a steeper cut comes in 2024, when production must be reduced to 60% of the baseline established by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
On January 23rd 2023, our community began to remove all R404a & R410a listings from the site.
We have happy to be able to offer a new refrigerant, R449a which is not a HFC.

R449a can operate with existing polyol ester (POE) oils present in R404A systems.
R449a is an HFO blend, which is the environmentally friendly alternative to the commonly used HFC blend in other refrigerants.
Using R449a as a replacement is easy.
Just use the same tools, test instruments, and recovery machines as you use with a R404A system.
R449A can accommodate state and federal legislation as they phase out high-GWP refrigerants, such as R404A with a 2088 GWP.
R449A is formulated to be trouble-free and works with all R404A compressors, system components and POE oils.
R449a has similar properties to R404A, including discharge pressure, discharge temperature, energy efficiency, and cooling capacity.
R449a adds up to an ideal replacement for R404a.
Clearly label the system to show it contains R449A.
1) Ensure the right equipment is available (e.g., recovery unit and cylinders, container for recovered lubricant, vacuum pump, weighing scales, replacement drier, etc.)
2) Record baseline data to establish the normal operating conditions for the equipment
3) Check the manufacturer’s specifications for the unit to find the recommended R404A charge in order to determine the amount of R449A to add.
4) Replace the filter/drier if moisture is suspected in the system. This is not necessary on a sealed system.
5) Having evacuated the system, liquid charge the unit with R449A up to 90% of the original charge amount of R404A and then compare to baseline data.
6) Switch on the unit and compare the baseline data, monitor sight glasses, suction line pressure and temperature, and discharge temperature; add additional R449A up to the recommended R404A system charge amount as needed.
7) Check system thoroughly for leaks; and repair as needed.
8) Clearly label the system to show it contains R449A.
You will receive a label with the refrigerant.
Switch on the unit and compare the baseline data, monitor sight glasses, suction line pressure and temperature, and discharge temperature; add additional R449A up to the recommended R404A system charge amount as needed.
You must be certified by the (EPA), Section 608 or Section 609 to purchase this item.
