Seller's Description
Quilt World Volume 14 Number 5 September1989 A Quilters Dream Come True
This book contains 64 pages of Quilt Patterns (9 patterns) as well as Quilt related features and stories. There is some writing on the front cover and on the top of page 38. There is a small piece ripped off on the rear cover (see Pictures)
Excerpt from “Editorial”:
Quilt World by its title alone implies that we cover quilting around the world. This issue really does travel the world. We have an article about some Australian quilters (page 7). Then we move on to Germany where we learn about a quilt shop there. Jackie Wills takes us on a tour of England’s museums where you will find interesting quilts. Then our trip goes on to Thailand where the Hmong people sell their beautiful applique work. Ohio is our next stop where you will see examples of quilts from the 5th Biennial Quilt National Show. For the price of a magazine, you will travel the world of quilting right in your own home.
Of course, our magazine wouldn’t be complete without sharing some patterns. The “Sunbonnet Sue Alphabet” quilt on our cover was made by Viola Keck. We begin sharing the patterns for the blocks in this quilt with this issue and will continue this series until all the blocks have been printed. Sunbonnet Sue has experienced a revival and is back in full force to delight quilters everywhere. We hope you enjoy her learning the alphabet and the fact that Bertha Corbeu’s original designs are interpreted in threads and fabrics to the delight of all.
As always, we introduce you to some inspirational quilters. Meet an Air Force sergeant for whom quilting has become an important hobby. Meet Gladys Shockley, a quilter who is in her ninth decade and still creating beautiful quilts. Join Pat Kyser as she re-introduces us to an old friend, Phiomena Wiechec Durcan, the well-known author and Celtic-design quilter.
Set aside those pet peeves, and sit down with your feet up to enjoy a few hours of relaxing reading as you travel the Quilt World with us. You will return refreshed and ready for another trip about the time your next Quilt World arrives in the mail. Until then,
Stay in stitches!
Your editor,
Sandra L. Hatch
