Portrait of Penelope, Princess of Capua; three-quarter length standing, directed to the left, head turned to front, with hair in ringlets, hands clasped at front, in hexagon.
Engraved by William Henry Mote (1803 - 1871). He was an English stipple and line engraver, primarily known for his portraits. He produced etchings for reference books, as well as original etchings. Mote became a member of the Royal Academy in his twenties and his portraits hang in the National Portrait Gallery, London.
After Alfred Edward Chalon (1780 - 1860). Chalon was born in Geneva but moved with his family to London at the time of the French Revolution. He studied at the Royal Academy Schools from 1797 and established a reputation as a fashionable portraitist in watercolours. He was appointed Portrait Painter in Watercolours to Queen Victoria in 1837 and he was the first artist to whom she sat after her accession.
