Postcard PC Whitepass Railway Steam Locomotive Yukon Canada B&W No. 343 New
I bought this on a recent trip to Whitehorse, Yukon.
This black and white postcard shows a steam locomotive rounding the bend while putting out black smoke.
This Postcard is new and has never been mailed.
It measures 6 X 4 inches.
This postcard is in good condition.
The rear reads:
From Skagway at sea level the White Pass Railway, built in 1895 to principally service the demands of the Gold Rush, crept up and around chasms and cliffs nearly 3,000 feet to the bleak, wild White Pass. Workers often suspended by ropes and plagued by terrible climatic conditions were aided only by horses, black gun powder and hand tools. Here they tunneled, blasted and scraped a precarious rail bed, often literally pinned to the mountains by spikes.
