" " The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" was one of the
longest-running family comedies in which the
real-life Nelson family portrayed themselves on the
air. Even the house they lived in was modeled after
the real-life Nelson home in Hollywood.

The show began on radio in 1944 with Ozzie and Harriet Nelson,
but their boy's roles were played by professional actors.
In 1949, David and Ricky Nelson took over their own roles on
radio, and afterwards on television as well, until the
series ended in 1966. The Nelson boys proved to be the real
stars of the show. Early in the series, the stories focused
mainly on the family, with the exception of a few friends.
As the Nelson boys grew up and started to date, new characters
were introduced to the show. Later as Ricky Nelson's own
show business career took off, it was integrated to the show
and it attracted a younger audience. This gave the show an
added boost.
