Seller's Description

Original 11 inch x 14 inch U.S. Title Lobby Card for the 1962 Sidney Gilliat Comedy ONLY TWO CAN PLAY, based on the novel by Kingsley Amis and starring Peter Sellers, Mai Zetterling, Virginia Maskell, Raymond Huntley, Kenneth Griffith, John le Mesurier, Meredith Edwards, Frederick Piper, Graham Stark and Richard Attenborough.

Welsh librarian John Lewis (Peter Sellers), unhappily married to Jean Lewis (Virginia Maskell), falls in love with the glamorous Elizabeth Gruffydd Williams (Mai Zetterling). Zetterling is likewise saddled with a dull spouse, wealthy Vernon Gruffyd-Williams (Raymond Huntley). Finding themselves to be kindred spirits, Sellers and Zetterling plan an illicit affair. Alas, none of their carefully calculated schemes for a romantic tryst come to fruition thanks to a series of comic (but utterly credible) complications. John ultimately concludes that adultery simply isn't worth the bother.

Title Card art after Harry Stevens
Harry Stevens was born 1919 in Manchester. With no formal art training he started his design career in the exhibitions and display trade. He went on to become a prolific freelance commercial artist, specialising in poster design. He worked for a wide variety of clients and agencies and in 1963 won the Council of Industrial Design Poster Award. In 1955 he joined the Society of Industrial Artists and was elected Fellow ten years later. He was also a member of the Society of Modern Painters.

The card is in very good condition with corner pinholes and slight creasing in the bottom right corner.
