Original media vintage magazine ad for NATIONAL ASSOCIATION BROADCASTERS. Difference between free cable and pay TV? A lot more than meets the eye. Cable TV began in 1948 when John Walson could not get television pictures from Philadelphia on his TV set in Mahanoy City, PA because there was a mountain in the way. So he put an antenna on top of the mountain and ran a wire down to his set. Presto! Television just like the big city. Soon his neighbors asked if they could clamp on to his cable and he let them.
An all out attempt is now being made to take the most wanted programs from cable and free-over-the -air and put them on pay TV. Pay TV operators want to charge you for movies, college and professional football, baseball, basketball and hockey, and for the kind of entertainment shows now on for free. They are asking the FCC to change its rules to permit them to do this. If you oppose this write to you Congressman and Senators.
