Original 1842 10 7/8 inch x 8 1/4 inch Engraving titled MONTROSE
A view of the town from the basin where the River South Esk meets the North Sea, with several sailing boats and people gathering along the shore.
Engraved by John James Hinchliffe
From a picture by William Henry Bartlett (1809 - 1854). Topographical draughtsman. Apprenticed to the antiquary and publisher John Britton, for whom he made illustrations until 1831. Travelled extensively producing illustrations for travel books, both those written by others and his own. Exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Watercolour Society.
