Original German 23 inch x 33 inch Poster for the 1955 Victor Vicas Drama MASTER OVER LIFE AND DEATH (HERR UBER LEBEN UND TOD), based on the novel by Carl Zuckmayer and starring Maria Schell, Ivan Desny, Ernst Wilhelm Borchert, Olga Limburg and Walter Bluhm.

Barbara is married to Georg Bertram, a professor of medicine who once saved her father's life. Things go awry for the couple when she gives birth to a mentally defective child. For Georg, coldly clinical, euthanizing the infant is the only way out. He is about to commit the irreparable when Barbara manages to interrupt his fatal act. By mutual agreement, husband and wife decide that Barbara will go to Saint-Guénolé in Brittany, where she and their son will be cared for by Louise Kerbrec, Georg's former nurse, in the hypothetical hope that the boy's condition will improve. What they do not know yet is that Barbara will meet there another doctor, Daniel Karentis, much more sympathetic than Georg and also more handsome.

The poster art is by Leo Bothas (aka Botjagin) (1903 - 1988). A German visual artist, known for his posters and set designs from the 1930s through the 1960s. He was a poster artist during the Nazi reign. For instance, he designed the poster of the 1936 Olympics in Berlin and for the German Pavilion at the 1937 World Expo in Paris.

The poster is in good to very good folded condition. There is a censor stamp at upper right. It has several pinholes around the corners and edges.
