LUCE
and His Empire

  • Hardback book with Dust Jacket by W.A. Swanberg
  • Over 525 pages with many photos
  • Copyright © 1972 by W.A. Swanberg
  • " In success and influence Henry Robinson Luce was the premier journalist of the twentieth century.
    The child of American missionaries in China, a man obsessed by God, Luce became a millionaire at thirty and used his innovative journalistic genius to create a publishing empire and acquire enormous political power. "

    " W.A. Swanberg recounts in fascinating detail the career of Luce and the impact of Time Inc. on our world.
    Here, for the first time, is the full record of Luce's propagandist crusades.
    The book is alive with vivid portraits of the men and women close to Luce;
    and most important of all, it portrays and assesses an extraordinary elusive man - called by Winston Churchill one of the most powerful men in America. "

    " Based on exhaustive research and many interviews, Luce and His Empire is an absorbing and important book.
    It is the major achievement of one of the foremost living biographers. "
