Seller's Description

Original British 16 1/2 inch x 22 inch Lift Bill Poster for the 1954 Charles Crichton Ealing Comedy THE LOVE LOTTERY starring David Niven, Peggy Cummins, Herbert Lom, Charles Victor, Anne Vernon, Gordon Jackson, Felix Aylmer, Hugh McDermott, Stanley Maxted, June Clyde, John Chandos, Theodore Bikel, Sebastian Cabot, Eugene Deckers, Andreas Malandrinos, Marcel Poncin, Humphrey Bogart (cameo), Michael Craig, Hattie Jacques, Alvar Liddell and Jean Marsh.

Rex Allerton is a top Hollywood star and an idol of the female population. To get away from the pressure of the fans who won't leave him alone, he relocates to a remote Italian village where unanticipated trouble arises when unwittingly he becomes the prize for an international lottery.

The poster art is by Brian Robb (1913 - 1979). Brian Robb was born in Scarborough, educated at Malvern College and studied at Chelsea School of Art from 1930, and at the Slade School of Fine Art from 1935. He went on to produce cartoons for Punch magazine, book illustrations and posters for Shell and London Transport. During World War II he was a creative camouflage officer in the Western Desert and after the war taught at Chelsea College of Art before becoming head of illustration at the Royal College of Art.

Printed by Graphic Reproductions Ltd. (Ealing’s main printer through the 1940s and 1950s)

The poster, produced for the Gaumont Haymarket, is in very good unfolded (rolled) condition with a small crease in the bottom left corner.
