Seller's Description
Original 1851 7 1/4 inch x 5 inch engraving titled LONDON, SOUTHWARK & BLACKFRIARS BRIDGES. From the Surrey side of the River.
View of new London Bridge, from the south, looking north west, towards Southwark Bridge, St Paul's, and Blackfriars Bridge; steamboats on water, the masts and rigging of ships in foreground; the Monument and St Magnus at north end of bridge.
Engraved by Edward John Roberts (1797 - 1865). Engraver and print publisher. Drawn by William Henry Bartlett (1809 - 1854). Topographical draughtsman. Apprenticed to the antiquary and publisher John Britton, for whom he made illustrations until 1831. Travelled extensively producing illustrations for travel books, both those written by others and his own. Exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Watercolour Society.
