- General Comments: Melbourne Hall (Derbyshire, UK) started off in the 12th century as manor house, but went through several owners subsequently being rebuilt. Thomas Coke, an amateur architect, inherited and helped design the impressive gardens. It eventually became the home of William Lamb, the 2nd Viscount Melbourne – who was Queen Victoria’s Prime Minister – but he ended up divorcing his wife after it became known she had been seeing Lord Byron… – want to learn more about this then go and visit Melbourne Hall. Oh, and yes Melbourne in Australia derives its name from this house!
- Who might be interested in buying this: a) anybody who plans to visit the house and learn something about it before arriving, b) anybody in Melbourne Australia who would like a souvenir relating to where their city got its name from.
