Seller's Description
Original 15 3/4 inch x 11 1/2 inch Engraving titled LATE KING VICTOR EMMANUEL II.
Victor Emmanuel II (1820 – 1878) was King of Sardinia from 1849 until 17 March 1861, when he assumed the title of King of Italy and became the first king of a united Italy since the 6th century, a title he held until his death in 1878. Borrowing from the old Latin title Pater Patriae of the Roman emperors, the Italians gave him the epithet of Father of the Fatherland.
Engraving by Charles Roberts (active 1870 - 1898)
Charles Roberts was a wood-engraver, who worked for the 'Illustrated London News' (1870), 'The Graphic' (1873-1898), and the 'Magazine of Art' (1878-1881). Often signs work 'C R' or 'C Roberts' .
From The Graphic January 19, 1878
The engraving is in very good condition with a small crease in the lower right corner. Printed text on the reverse
