Seller's Description

16 Original 1977 Re-Release 9 3/8 inch x 12 inch Stills for the 1949 Jacques Tati Comedy JOUR DE FETE starring JACQUES TATI as François, the postman, Guy Decomble, Paul Frankeur, Santa Relli, Maine Vallée, Robert Balpo, Delcassan and Jacques Beauvais.

Funny and generous-spirited Tati classic comedy with the great French Pantomimist as the local postman who gets on his bike for speedy delivery after watching and American mail movie. His comic attempts at effienciency are silent movie-style jokes at their finest, but mostly this film’s a warm, perhaps cosy portrait of a sleepy, contented French community where the arrival of a funfair is great news.

Filmed in the village of Sainte-Sévère-sur-Indre.

Nino Molossena del Monaco, who had bought the rights, and the very cans, of Tati’s film numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4, did not leave his property to mature in the bank safe where it was stored. He actually worked very hard to disentangle, the financial, administrative and legal constraints which prevented public showings of the films, and eventually succeeded in freeing Tati’s oeuvre from its chains. By 1977 Jour de Fete, Les Vacances, Mon Oncle and Playtime were once again available for distribution. Tati no longer had any direct financial stake in them , of course, but he had not lost any of his moral and aesthetic interest in his early works.
