Seller's Description

Original 10 inch x 8 inch Black and White Portrait of JOHN LE MESURIER.

Born in Bedford on 5 April 1912, John Le Mesurier studied acting from the age of 20 and by the time World War II broke out, he was already an established repertory player. He appeared in a few TV films before he married Hattie Jacques in 1949, whom he met while visiting the Players Theatre in London. He had toles in the radio series of Hancock's Half Hour and was later cast in the star's TV shows. He starred in several films throughout the 1950s and 60s, most memorably with the Boulting Brothers. He parted with Jacques in 1965, only to marry Joan Malin that same year. In 1968, he took on his most famous role, as the upper-class Sergeant Arthur Wilson in Dad's Army. Le Mesurier died in 1983, having taken out a self-penned notice in the Times, declaring he'd "conked out".

The portrait is in very good condition with a crease in the top right corner.
