Indie Comicstravaganza: Jimmy Ricochet (Private Investigator)
Jimmy Ricochet is artist/writer Craig Wilson‘s entreé into a crowded market of humor books that take on the hardboiled detective trope. I picked it up at APE on the strength of Wilson’s prints and other art displayed on his table. “Here we go,” I thought, “the back of it says there’s a murder at Comic-Con San Diego, and blah blah. This should be rich.”
Then I open the book and sit down to read. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS? Fantastic art, COMPLETELY solid writing, and likable characters that don’t wander into caricature? Am I imagining things?
Let me go ahead and publicly apologize to Craig Wilson for what was in my head. This book is fantastic, and crushes anything being put out by some larger artists in the genre. I’ll take this over a PVP book any day.
