GRIDS & GROMMETS
The Grids & Grommets Bag is a versatile style offered in four sizes. Make the larger version as a tote or the smaller bag as an attractive purse. It incorporates grommets for closing and a comfortable shoulder strap. Construct it from a plain fabric using an interesting quilting pattern or piece the bag incorporating your favorite jelly roll fabric coordinates (2 1/2 wide strips). Double the straps over your shoulder or convert it to a single strap across your body for security and convenience.
Small Jelly Roll Bag: 11” H x 13” W x 5” D
Large Jelly Roll Bag: 16” H x 15” W x 7” D
Large Quilted Bag: 14” H x 13” W x 8” D
Small Quilted Bag: 9” H x 7½” W x 8” D
Materials Needed:
SMALL JELLY ROLL VERSION:
Nine 2½” x 22” fabric strips for purse body
1/3 yard fabric for shoulder strap (or pieced jelly roll strips)
¼ yard fabric for upper purse band and band lining (or pieced jelly roll strips)
1 yard fabric for purse lining, interior pockets and purse base cover
1 yard Pellon fleece for interfacing
2 yards of 16/32” cotton filler cording (used for piping in upholstery)
½ yard Pellon Peltex or piece of cardboard for purse base
Eight drapery grommets, 1” inside diameter (Dritz)
String or cord
Thread to match
OPTIONAL: One magnetic closure (Ghee’s)
OPTIONAL: Four purse feet (Chee’s)
LARGE JELLY ROLL VERSION:
Eleven 2 1/2” x 32” fabric strips for purse body
½ yard fabric for handle
1/3 yard fabric for upper purse band and band lining
1 yard of fabric for purse lining, interior pockets and purse base cover -
1½ yards of 45” wde Pellon fleece for interfacing
½ yard Peltex or cardboard for purse base
Eight drapery grommets, 1-5/8” inside diameter (Dritz Home Curtain Grommets)
