Original 1866 9 5/8 inch x 7 3/4 inch engraving titled HUSH! HE SLEEPS
A woman sitting in an ornately carved chair, cradling an infant and gesturing for quiet with a raised finger of her left hand.
Engraving by Joseph Franck (1825 - 1883). A painter of mainly domestic scenes often with children.
After Joshua Hargrave Sams Mann (1826 - 1887). Born in County Cork Elmore was a history and genre painter.
Lettered below image with title: "In the collection of J Knowles, Esq Manchester”.
Published in the Art Journal by J.S. Virtue & Co. Ltd., London.

The engraving, on fairly thick paper, is in very good condition, with minor foxing in the white border. Reverse side blank.
