Materials Needed

MATERIALS (for needlepoint): Chart; 1/2 yard of 40-inch wide 14-mesh needlepoint canvas; Paternayan 3-ply tapestry yarns — 7 skeins No. 261 Medium white for background, 4 skeins each No. 412 Medium earth brown, No. 475 Light toast brown, No. 742 Medium tobacco, No. 755 Light old gold, 3 skeins each No. 473 Medium toast brown and No. 474 Light toast brown, 1 skein or less of each of the remaining colors listed in the color key; size 20 tapestry needle; masking tape.

Finished size: Approximately 14-1/2 by 18-1/2 inches, including background.
Stitch count: Approximately 172 by 232 stitches for design only.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR NEEDLEPOINT
1. Cut canvas to measure 17-1/2 by 21-1/2 inches.
Masking tape edges of canvas to prevent raveling.
2. Use 2 strands of yarn throughout.
3. Design is worked entirely in basketweave stitch.
4. Center design on canvas and work according to chart. Additional border area of white may be added to achieve the desired size of the completed design.
5. Frame as desired.

MATERIALS (for cross-stitch): Chart; white Aida cloth to achieve size given in Finished sizes below; DMC 6-strand embroidery floss—1 skein each of the colors listed in the color key; embroidery needle; embroidery hoop; masking tape.

Finished sizes: The design area is approximately 172 by 232 stitches. Approximate size of the completed design will be determined by the mesh count per inch of Aida cloth used, as follows:
11-count Aida 15-1/2 by 21 inches.
14-count Aida 12-1/4 by 16-1/2 inches.
18-count Aida 9-1/2 by 12-3/4 inches.

Note: When purchasing material for design, add a 2-inch-wide border for both sides and for top and bottom, or size desired for completed project.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CROSS-STITCH
1. Masking tape edges of Aida cloth to prevent fraying.
2. Use 2 strands of floss throughout.
3. Center design on Aida cloth and work according to chart.
4. Frame as desired.
