DEFIANT, based on the novel by Frank Tilsley and starring Alec Guinness, Dirk Bogarde, Anthony Quayle, Tom Bell, Nigel Stock, Murray Melvin, Victor Maddern, Maurice Denham, Johnny Briggs, David Robinson and Toke Townley.
Napoleonic sea saga about a clash between humane, ineffectual ship’s captain Guinness and sadistic disciplinarian first mate Bogarde is well told by director Gilbert with first rate perfromances and authentic detail.
