Seller's Description
Original 1866 7 1/8 inch x 9 7/8 inch engraving titled THE FOUNTAIN
Women wearing Mediterranean dress with head-scarves and blouses with billowing sleeves, gathering water at a fountain with an overgrown stone surround decorated with two statues in niches to either side, one woman sitting to left, dressing her hair. There is a small ruin in the background to right.
Engraving by Charles Cousen (c. 1819 - 1889). Line engraver and etcher born in Yorkshire.
After William James Müller (1812 - 1845). Landscape painter, predominantly in watercolours, born and trained in Bristol and the best-known artist of the Bristol School. Visited Egypt between 1838 and 1839 before settling in London.
Lettered below image with title: "From the Picture in the Possession of the Publisher”.
