  • Comments: If you ever thought that transatlantic TV began with Telstar in 1962, think again. Actually, John Logie Baird demonstrated it as far back as 1928. However, the first “recordings” of live transatlantic TV occurred by chance in 1938 when the RCA company in New York recorded some 405 line transmissions from the BBC’s Alexandra Palace on 41.5MHz (Audio channel) that made it across the Atlantic courtesy of optimal conditions in the F2 layer of the Earth’s ionosphere. So, if you are interested in the golden days of early TV, or the effects of the ionosphere on radio transmissions, then this is the article for you. Pages on the other side of this article include something about bus specifications in 1999, Analogue to Digital convertors for multiplexing, charge pumps, low drop out linear regulators, and smart linear motor controllers. The adverts in the newspaper include: Fairchild Semiconductors, NJR’s Op-Amp range, Texcel Technology, OKI, PartMiner and the programme for the IP99 Europe Conference in Edinburgh.
