Seller's Description
Original 1848 10 inch x 6 1/2 inch Chromolithograph of FLOWERS AND THEIR KINDRED THOUGHTS - FUCHSIA - FINE TASTE
Poetry by Mary Ann Bacon
Design by by Owen Jones
Owen Jones (1801-1874) was an architect, printer and designer. He arranged the exhibits for the Great Exhibition of 1851 and decorated the interior of the original Paxton building and of the Crystal Palace after it was moved to Sydenham. His first venture in printing was a sumptuous ten part work, illustrating the Alhambra, 1836-42. To achieve this he helped to develop the new process of chromolithography and subsequently became greatly involved in designing and printing illuminated gift books.
Drawn on stone by E.L. Bateman
Published by Longman & Co., London
The print is in very good condition with light age related toning, a tiny crease upper right corner and with the poem on the reverse.
