Additional descriptive notes (if applicable): the full text on the back of the postcard reads: French Girl and the Policeman. This railway poster produced in 1899 shows a French girl asking the friendly policeman for assistance. Her phrase book is in her hand and the red coated soldiers are walking behind. Such was the image of England in the eyes of French visitors nearly a hundred years ago.
