Seller's Description
Original 1894 5 3/8 inch x 7 3/4 inch Chromolithograph titled FALLOW DEER.
Fallow deer are a widespread species of deer in Britain. Originally from the Mediterranean and middle east, these deer were spread across Europe by the Romans and introduced to British parks and forests by the Normans in the 11th century. They spend most of the year in single sex herds, only coming together in autumn for the annual rut, where the males groan, parallel walk and lock antlers..
Engraved by Friedrich Wilhelm Kuhnert (1865 - 1926). A German painter, author and illustrator, who specialized in animal images.
This illustration is taken from ‘The Royal Natural History’ edited by Richard Lydekker and published by Frederick Warne & Co. London and New York, 1894.
The page size is 10 inch x 6 5/8 inch
The chromolithograph is in very good condition. Reverse side is blank.
