Seller's Description
Medium Tibetan/Japanese Zen Incense Burner
This holder is made specifically for thick sticks, such as Tibetan, Japanese thick temple, or Shoyeido Zen. The hole is tapered, however, and it can also be used for other stick incense.
Individually hand made and signed by the artist. As these are hand made, each one is different. You will get the exact item that's shown in the photos.
These unique incense burners and offering bowls are created by De Baun Fine Ceramics for your personal sacred space or altar. There are many ancient and contemporary designs to choose from. These incense burners are designed to catch all the ashes and hold a variety of incense stick sizes. If the stick is very thin, break it near the bottom to double the thickness or leave the last stick remnant in the hole to help support your incense.
Artist Diane De Baun has been working with clay since the early 80’s. Each incense burner, oil diffuser, bowl plate and pottery vessel is hand-built either by the technique of coil, or slab, and raku fired. Every piece is unique as it is individually made, fired, and signed by Diane De Baun. Most designs are combination of hand carving and stamping. Some of Diane's stamps take days to complete as they must be carved to a good depth to imprint into the clay. She takes her drawn design and enlarges or shrinks the size and places it on the leather hard clay which is either circular or square in form. Using a sharp pencil she goes over the design which impresses into the clay. Then she carves directly into the clay using first a sharp pencil and changing to other tools which can dig out the clay.
