For more than 300 years man has raced Thoroughbreds - through poetry and art, admiration has been expressed for the speed, stamina and courage of the horse and almost all generations have selected equine heroes to remember with affection. 1) CITATION - he ended his career as the first horse to earn $1 million after winning his last and most climactic race the 1951 Hollywood Gold Cup with 22 wins from 45 starts.

2) SWAPS - he was the first California-bred to win the roses in Kentucky and retired with the largest collection of world speed records in history ranging in distance from one to 1-5/8 miles. See film footage of his following races: 1955 Californian which was the battleground against 1954 Derby winner, DETERMINE, 1956 Inglewood Handicap, 1956 Hollywood Gold Cup against PORTERHOUSE and MR. GUS, 1956 Sunset Handicap. The memory of that incredible season of 1956 still uplifts those he touched - he made his farewell walk at Santa Anita where he was undefeated; with SHOEMAKER up, he proudly paraded on a gloomy day befitting the occasion.

3) ROUND TABLE - probably one of the soundest, toughest colts in history, he had a complete symmetry and absolute lack of blemishes. He ran at ten different tracks at age three alone and went on to become Horse-of-the-Year in 1958 and also Champion Grass Horse three years in-a-row! He won 14 of 16 starts on grass in an era of few grass courses and large competitive fields; he carried 130 lbs. or more on 25 occasions; and established or equaled 16 world, American, or track records and retired as leading money earner and kept that title until surpassed by KELSO. 4) NORTHERN DANCER - the most successful Canadian-bred racehorse and first Canadian-bred Kentucky Derby winner - he met and defeated the best of his generation. Race footage includes his 1964 Derby, Preakness and Queen's Plate victories. He would retire to one of the most phenomenal stud careers of any Thoroughbred in history becoming the greatest sire of sires

5) KELSO - no horse dominated American Thoroughbred racing over such an extended period as did KELSO, Mrs. Richard C. Dupont's marvelous gelding was voted Horse-of-the-Year for five consecutive seasons from 1960-64! His 1963 and 1964 Woodward Stakes and 1964 Washington D.C. International victories are shown; when KELSO finally retired, he lead the money earned title with more than $1.9 million but more importantly he won the love and affection of millions of fans

6) NATIVE DIVER - he was the most exciting horse in California in the 1960's; this almost black gelding was the consummate speed horse and the public loved him! He won stakes races from ages two to eight and these races are shown: 1965 and 1967 Hollywood Gold Cup (with the amusing first-place disqualification finish of the riderless horse, O'HARA) and 1967 San Carlos Handicap. He was flashy, exciting, contrary and strong-willed and loved by millions

7) BUCKPASSER - a bay horse by TOM FOOL, he had near-perfect conformation and was the best horse ever bred by Ogden Phipps. These races are shown: 1965 Sapling Stakes, 1966 Flamingo, 1966 Malibu Stakes and 1967 Jockey Club Gold Cup. He won 13 of his 14 starts at three-years-old displaying intense speed by setting a new world record for the mile in Chicago and was unanimous choice for '66 Horse-of-the-Year

8) MAJESTIC PRINCE - the most dynamic horse of his time, how he loved to run. He was bought for a then-record sum of $250,000 (see rare footage of him at the yearling auction) and came from the regal sire line of NATIVE DANCER (grandsire) through his son, RAISE A NATIVE - between these three great horses, only three races were ever lost! These three races are shown: 1969 Santa Anita Derby, 1969 Derby and 1969 Preakness

9) SECRETARIAT - was the focus of the racing world in 1973 becoming the ninth Triple Crown winner after a 25-year drought. He crushed his opponents and established new track records for all three Triple Crown races with his dominating performances which are all shown. His Belmont feat was a moment to be savored - he marched into history in the most emphatic possible way; a winner, 31 incredible lengths in front of the next horse - OUR GREATEST THOROUGHBRED!

10) SILKY SULLIVAN - one of a kind! He ran his races upside down, taking himself back at the start sometimes by 41 lengths behind the leaders and then unleashing a tremendous late run to capture a race, thus the term, ""The SILKY SULLIVAN Finish"", came to be. He was never a champion but captured the imagination and was the beloved favorite of the common man - suggesting the impossible dream for the innocents. So much a part of folklore he had become that many years after retirement, he would be brought back to Santa Anita to make guest appearances and seemed happy to be back as were his adoring fans. His 1958 Kentucky and Santa Anita Derby's are shown, as well as the infamous 41-length come-from-behind win
