Seller's Description

On DVD or VHS:  REFERENCE POINT shown with jockey Steve Cauthen aboard

A fitting tribute to a European standout.... REFERENCE POINT was a son of the Epsom Derby winner MILL REEF. He was trained at Newmarket by Henry Cecil and was initially considered to be a poor prospect. He ran badly in his first race and was not expected by Henry to be much better in his second race. However, he won the race by eight lengths in a record time. His next race was a Group One at Doncaster racecourse. His jockey the American Steve Cauthen had two choices and he picked the wrong one. With Irishman Pat Eddery riding REFERENCE POINT they won the race in a brilliant manner. Steve rode the Thoroughbred thereafter and he won the Dante Stakes, the Epsom Derby, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, the Great Voltiguer Stakes and the St. Leger.
