In 1986, for the first time the Breeders' Cup came to Santa Anita. The third running of the Breeders' Cup was perhaps its most festive - a crowd of 70,000 turned out to witness Thoroughbred racing's year-end "Championship Day"...considered the world series of Thoroughbred racing for it's on this day that championship events are held for virtually every division in the sport. The elite Breeders' Cup card features seven races totaling $10 million - making it by far racing's richest day. 

This uplifting and inspiring JOHN FORSYTHE-narrated documentary complete with a wonderful music score takes the viewer on a ride of a lifetime through all seven races on Breeders' Cup day; includes interesting stories of some of the race favorites, interviews with their various human connections and basically gives you a sampling of all the going's-on leading up to and including the big event.

In the 1986 Breeders' Cup, SECRETARIAT would make his presence felt in the form of a daughter that he bore little resemblance to...a gray filly named, LADY'S SECRET. With nine stakes victories already to her credit for 1986, many believed that this race could have far reaching implications in the Horse-of-the-Year voting. In a flawless performance, the gifted filly crushed the field with supreme confidence; the feat was a proud moment for SECRETARIAT's owner, PENNY CHENERY, who stated, "...I'm thrilled because I've always known SECRETARIAT would reproduce himself but I didn't know it would be a gray filly." For racing fans everywhere the legacy of SECRETARIAT lives on in LADY'S SECRET. 

But the big newsmaker of the 1986 Breeders' Cup was England's DANCING BRAVE, a Kentucky-bred son of LYPHARD (NORTHERN DANCER) who had already won eight of nine career starts (including Europe's prestigious Prix de l' Arc de Triomphe) and came to the U.S. with hopes of adding to his riches. His presence had become the major media focus of the Breeders' Cup; less attention, however, was paid to another talented son of LYPHARD also entered in the Breeders' Cup turf, three-year-old, MANILA. Even for a talented horse 6,000 miles is a difficult distance to travel and for DANCING BRAVE the Breeders' Cup was a lesson in adaptation to a foreign soil. Unfortunately the highly-touted Euro-champion was not up to the task on that particular day and MANILA gave the U.S. its first Breeders' Cup Turf victory. 

In the final story of the Breeders' Cup day, the lightly raced four-year-old long-shot, SKYWALKER, came along to shatter the dreams of would-be champions TURKOMAN and PRECISIONIST, co-favorites in the Classic. In all of racing, there is only one day when the world's finest Thoroughbreds come together on the same track and championships are decided...that day is the Breeders' Cup.
