Original 1957 Polish 24 inch x 34 inch Poster for the 1942 Carl Theodor Dreyer Witchcraft Drama DAY OF WRATH (VREDENS DAG), based on the1909 Norwegian play “Anne Pedersdotter” by Hans Wiers-Jenssen and starring Thorkild Roose, Lisbeth Movin, Sigrid Neiiendam, Preben Lerdorff, Anna Svierkier, Olaf Ussing and Albert Hoeberg.
The film adaptation is based on an actual Norwegian case in the sixteenth century. It tells the story of a young woman who is forced into a marriage with an elderly pastor after her late mother was accused of witchcraft. She falls in love with the pastor's son and also comes under suspicion of witchcraft.
Poster art by Lucjan Jagodzinski (1897 - 1971). Lucjan Jagodzinski was educated at the A. Muraszko School of Drawing and Painting in Kiev (1914-16), at the Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts (1916-17) and at the Krzyzanowski School in Warsaw (1921-23). He also studied in Paris with Olga Boznanska (1928-29). He worked in easel painting and the graphic arts.
The poster is in very good unfolded (rolled) condition.
