Original MGM 10 inch x 8 inch Wardour Films Portrait of DAME MAY WHITTY.
Text attached to reverse: Dame May Whitty, grand old lady of the screen, whose fine character delineations are seen in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer pictures. Dame May, awarded her title by the late King George V of England in 1918 for her brilliant work in the theatre, started her career in the early ‘80’s when she was only 15, became one of London’s favorite stage stars and never has given up acting for more than brief periods at a time. She has been married more than fifty years to Ben Webster, now retired from the stage. Among Dame May’s notable screen successes were her roles in “Mrs Miniver”, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award; “Night Must Fall” and “The Lady Vanishes.” She will soon be seen with Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon in a forthcoming M-G-M film.
The portrait is in very good condition with minor surface marks.
