Original circa 1841 9 inch x 5 1/2 inch engraving of the COUNTESS ROSSI
Portrait vignette-style, half-length to left, looking over shoulder, wearing a dark mantilla which she touches with right hand.
Print by Henry Thomas Ryall (1811 - 1867). An eminent nineteenth-century line, stipple and mixed-method engraver, Henry Thomas Ryall was known for his portraits and his sporting, historical and genre subjects. After studying engraving techniques under Samuel William Reynolds, Ryall lived and worked in London. Ryall was appointed historical engraver to the queen, in which capacity he engraved the portraits of many members of the royal family.
After John Hayter (1800 - 1895). Born in London. Painter and draughtsman. Brother of George Hayter. Entered the Royal Academy schools in 1815, and exhibited at the R.A from the same year. Also exhibited at the B.I. and Society of British Artists. Best known for portraits in pastel.
