Original 1872 6 1/2 inch x 9 7/8 inch coloured print titled LOLIUM TEMULENTUM, VAR. ARVENSE. COMMON DARNEL, VAR. B.
Lolium temulentum, typically known as darnel, poison darnel, darnel ryegrass or cockle, is an annual plant of the genus Lolium within the family Poaceae. The plant stem can grow up to 3 feet tall, with inflorescence in the ears and purple grain. It has a cosmopolitan distribution.
Drawn by John Edward Sowerby (1825 - 1870). A British botanical illustrator and publisher born in Lambeth, London.
