CHRISTIAN SCIENCE AND ITS DISCOVERER Hardback book by E. Mary Ramsay Copyright, Great Britain, 1923, by E.M. Ramsey Copyright, 1935, by The Christian Science Publishing Society According to the author in the Preface: " It was in the year 1913, when I was Christian Science Committee on Publication for the East of Scotland, that I was approached by an Edinburgh publisher who was anxious to obtain a short volume on Christian Science for his series, "People's Books." This series included short treatises on religious and philosophical movements of the day, all written from within. As in the course of my work I had encountered a number of short books and pamphlets purporting to explain Christian Science which were incorrect and critical, I was inclined to comply with his request, but I undertook nothing till I had referred the matter to the members of The Christian Science Board of Directors, who encouraged me to proceed. As the European War broke out soon afterwards, the work was laid aside, but was not completed till 1922. By this time the series for which the book was intended had come to an end, and the firm of publishers had been amalgamated with another. A publisher, however, was found in Messrs. Heffer & Sons of Cambridge, England, and the book appeared in 1923, and has been through two editions. It was primarily intended for the British Isles, and has also had some circulation in South Africa and in other parts of the British Empire. " " The present edition has been carefully revised with the aid of competent authorities, including the Editor of the Bureau of History and Records of The Mother Church, and is now issued by The Christian Science Publishing Society. " The book is in nice condition for its age. The cover has some normal edgewear. The pages are yellowed due to aging. No torn or ripped pages. No markings or writing. |
