Original British 17 inch x 11 inch Trade Advertisement from Kinematograph Weekly for the 1937 Eugene Forde Mystery CHARLIE CHAN ON BROADWAY, based on the character "Charlie Chan" created by Earl Derr Biggers and starring Warner Oland, Keye Luke, Joan Marsh, J. Edward Bromberg, Douglas Fowley, Harold Huber, Donald Woods, Louise Henry, Joan Woodbury, Leon Ames, Marc Lawrence, Toshia Mori, Charles Williams, Eugene Borden, Lon Chaney Jr. and Cyril Ring.
The Chinese detective (Warner Oland) visits New York with No. 1 son (Keye Luke) and solves murders by reading a gossip column. .
The advertisement artwork is by A. “Jock” W. Hinchliffe.
Hinchliffe was born in Perth, Scotland. In 1953 he had a studio in Chalk Farm, North London, where he produced a series of six oil paintings as publicity for 20th Century Fox’s “The Robe”. He had been engaged by Fox in 1926 and produced posters and ads continuously for them, and for Disney, well into the 1960s.
The Advertisement is in very good condition with an edge nick and minor surface marks.
