Overall condition is acceptable. The first edition was published by William Morrow and Company in 1937 and this is a Detective Book Club printing of the novel, released in the same year by the Walter J. Black company. It uses much the same dust jacket design as the first edition. Clearly, there is no dust jacket with this copy. The book appears to have had at least two owners as given by the writing on the insides of the covers, first three pages, and last four pages. It also traveled at some point from Mississippi to Ohio. The scans of the front, spine, and back show much of the extent of the wear, tear, and flaws. This has all been taken into account in the opening price ask. For sure, not a collector's copy but decent enough for someone wanting a first year printing of this novel. Interior pages have discolored with age.
