Seller's Description
postcard titled Is there a British Colour Bar
""This 'Picture Post' headline reflected concern for Commonwealth Immigrants who had arrived at a time of manpower shortages, helping the economy by taking on the more unpopular jobs. Yet they encountered prejudice in the workplace and in housing. The 1950s saw an increase in the presence of immigrants and a rise in racial tension leading to extensive race riots in 1958. It was not until 1965 that the first of the Race Relations Acts made it a criminal offence in Britain to discriminate on racial grounds or to incite racial hatred""
